The Corowa export finds himself just two shots off the leaders after a three-under par second round at The Lakes Club in Sydney on Friday.
South Korean Byeong Hu An and South Australian Max McCardle lead the field after 36 holes.
An’s round featured a hole-in-one on the 15th.
American Matt Kuchar, amateur David Micheluzzi and Jake McLeod also impressed to finish their rounds at seven-under.
The best round of the day went to Wollongong’s Jordan Zunic, who had just one bogey in his seven-under 65 – taking him to six-under.
Fraser got off to a flying start with birdies at the first and third, before giving one back at five.

Six straight pars followed, before he briefly dropped back to his overnight score with a bogey at 12, only to follow it with a birdie at the 13th.
Fraser cashed in on the par-five 14th with another birdie and finished with a two on the par-three 18th.
The tournament is over for Wodonga’s Zach Murray, who failed to make the cut.
The newly-turned professional shot a two-under par 70 in his second round, but it wasn’t enough to make up for a 79 on Thursday, finishing five-over par.
Yarrawonga’s Adam Burdett let his chance slip late in his round to also miss the cut, carding a one-over par 73 to finish the day at +4.
Burdett hit a purple patch with a two birdies and an eagle on his first nine to get back to even for the tournament, but fell away late in the day with three bogies and a double in the space of six holes.
The cut line was two-over par.
