Police believe the truck, heading to Wodonga, was on the wrong side of the road when it collided with the family’s Audi.
Mrs Kilmister’s husband Paul, 44, along with two of their other sons – eight-month-old Austin and two-year-old Morgan – were airlifted to hospital with critical injuries.
The 31-year-old truck driver, Ryan Wayne Kenny, faces multiple charges including two counts of culpable driving, two counts of dangerous driving causing death, two counts of negligently causing serious injury, two counts of reckless conduct endangering life and serious injury and exceeding the prescribed concentration of drugs while driving.
Kenny appeared before the Wangaratta Magistrates Court on Monday.
He did not apply for bail.
He has been remanded in custody and will return to court on March 14.
“To the driver of the truck involved, I’d like you to know that our thoughts are with you,” Mr Gwynne said.
“Regardless of blame or circumstance, an incident that happened in a few short minutes is likely to affect you for quite some time to come.
“I hope that you have the love and support of your family.”
