AFTER decades of various plans being floated, Wodonga Council has officially approved a cinema for the city.
Councillors on Monday night voted unanimously for a $50 million development which will see a 10-screen complex built at Junction Place as part of an entertainment centre which will also include a bowling alley, karaoke room and restaurants.
United Cinemas chief Sam Mustaca was rapt.
“This planning permit is going to significantly boost the confidence of the project’s private development partners,” he said.
Construction is expected to begin next year.
Veteran councillors mayor Anna Speedie and John Watson noted numerous cinema proposals had been flagged without being realised.
“This is actually happening, this is the first permit that’s been put in place for the City of Wodonga to have a cinema,” Cr Watson said.
