The action follows a city parking officer on Monday raising concerns over Mr Tait’s shade tent because it overhung High Street outside the former ANZ bank being used for early votes.
Due to processing, which can take five to 10 days, a permit for the marquee would not be granted before the election on Saturday.
“Council will offer the proponent a refund on their permit application and suggest the use of smaller-style beach umbrellas to offer shade for the remaining time as long as there is no impediment to pedestrian traffic,” a council spokeswoman said.
Mr Tait said it was “a fair and reasonable compromise” and he planned to put up umbrellas on Wendesday to provide sun protection.
