Featuring a stacked lineup, By the Banks returns to Willowbank for a second year after the inaugural festival in 2017 was a smash hit. Lead by The Northern Folk and headlined by The Montgomery Brothers, the indie-folk festival is sure to attract a massive crowd once again. In addition to the two aforementioned bands, the likes of Timberwolf and the Rosie Burgess Trio will be joined by local acts ELK, Pablo Pace and Squid Doctors.

Ned Nostalgia
MAMA, Albury, Opens Friday November 23, Free
An exhibition of Australia’s most iconic artists, about of one the region’s most notorious figures opens its doors – free to the public – today. MAMA will host a curator’s floor-talk from 4.30pm on Friday ahead of the official opening of the Sidney Nolan: Ned Kelly at 5.30pm. The exhibition is the first ticketed exhibition MAMA has offered free to the public.. The exhibition consists of 26 paintings created in 1946 and 1947 and runs for three months.
Soul Saviours
The Rubens, Albury SS&A, Saturday and Sunday November 24-25, Tix $50
Indie darlings The Rubens are playing two shows in Albury this weekend, having added a second, on Sunday evening, due to overwhelming demand. The quartet, who came in atop the Triple J Hottest 100 in 2016 with ‘Hoops’, are touring their latest album, Lo La Ru. Featuring singles ‘Million Man’, ‘Never Ever’ and ‘God Forgot’, The Rubens’ live show is one not to be missed. Expect highlights from their latest albums, as well as some of the smash hits that put their blend of soul and rock on the map.
Steps Together
Step Out Against Violence, Saturday November 24, 11am, QEII Square
Dean Street will come to a top on Saturday morning for Step Out Against Violence, a community march against domestic violence. Saturday’s walk will mark the second year the event has been held, and will culminate in a community celebration at the end of the walk with food and music. The event was put together by Albury Community Health, in consultation with survivors of sexual assault. Organisers were thrilled with the turnout in 2017 – here’s hoping for an even bigger showing this time around.
Revved Up
Ned Kelly Cup, Wangaratta Speedway, November Saturday 24 from 5pm, Tix $25
If roaring engines and automotive carnage are what rev your engine, make sure you get down to the Wangaratta Speedway on Saturday. Gates open at midday, with the first races to begin from 5pm. It’s an action-packed night of racing that is definitely not to be missed!
Great Adventure
The Great Victorian Bike Ride, Saturday and Sunday November 24-25, Bright to Beechworth leg
More than 3000 cyclists will hit the road across the North East this weekend for the Great Victorian Bike Ride. Spanning 541 kilometres from Bright to Benalla, riders arrive in Beechworth on Sunday before setting off for Tallangatta, Rutherglen, and Glenrowan later in the week.
Heavy Metal
Metal in the Mountains, Saturday November 24, Beechworth
If you're looking for something a bit more ferocious for your Saturday, head to Beechworth for Metal in the Mountains. Headlined by Melbourne bands I Am Duckeye and Grindhouse, it'll be an evening of head-banging hardcore fun, also featuring local upstarts Froffwits. Tickets are available at the door.
