The Benambra contender flagged the carbon fund on Wednesday as part of a three-prong climate change policy.
“We should have a dedicated carbon fund where farmers are paid for diversification for carbon storage, planting trees,” Ms O’Connor said.
She said the budget for such a fund would need to be determined via consulting Landcare and the Victorian Farmers Federation.
Ms O’Connor also wants the government budget for the Municipal Emergency Resourcing Program to jump from $4.6 million to $10 million to allow councils, such as Alpine, Indigo and Towong, to take more preventative bushfire action.
Lastly she wants recommendations from a regional energy roadmap, examining renewable projects, funded rather than shelved.
