MAMA will host a curator’s floor-talk from 4.30pm on Friday ahead of the official opening of the Sidney Nolan: Ned Kelly at 5.30pm.
The exhibition is the first ticketed exhibition MAMA has offered free to the public.
Acting director Karyn Ford said they wanted as many people as possible to see the iconic exhibition so sought sponsorship from community members and businesses.
She said they expect a large number of attendees to the show over the three month period.
"We're anticipating around 20,000 visitors to the Museum during this exhibition,” she said.
“That is a huge bonus for tourism, retailers, restaurants and accommodation providers in the city.
“The timing of Sidney Nolan: Ned Kelly series over the busy Summer holiday period is perfect, and we look forward to a busy couple of months.”

Ms Ford said while museum entry is always free, MAMA generally puts a cover charge on one major exhibition a year to help partially recover their operating costs.
“We are so grateful that the community has stepped up in support of this significant Australian exhibition.
“It will reduce the financial barrier to visiting the museum and allow more people to enjoy the artwork.”
The exhibition consists of 26 painting created in 1946 and 1947.
