More than 10cm of snow fell across Falls Creek ski fields from Wednesday through Thursday, with snow still covering the village on Friday.
A Falls Creek spokesman said the surprise snow came two months after the usual ski season end.
MORE NEWS:
“Whilst snow is generally restricted to the months of June, July, August and September, Falls Creek experiences the occasional unseasonable snow system such as this,” he said.
He said Falls Creek was hosting two large events this weekend the Alpine Challenge and the MTBA Gravity Enduro National Cup, but neither would be affected by the “freak snow system”, with sunny conditions to return by the weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology predicted the rainy weather would continue on Friday, before clearing on Saturday.
