TO suggest the last 12 months have been busy for The Rubens would be an almost comical understatement.

In addition to releasing their third album, Lo La Ru, the band has kept a relentless touring schedule.
A national tour to begin the year, followed by a world tour, then a regional tour, then a supporting tour for Pink, and finally, their current album tour – which has led them to Albury this weekend.
We've never played in Albury before, so going into new towns and having them sell out is a bit of a trip.
- Sam Margin
Originally booked for one show on Saturday night, the bands has scheduled a second on Sunday night due to demand – a fact frontman Sam Margin was surprised by, considering this will be the Rubens’ first show on the Border.
“We've never played in Albury before, so going into new towns and having them sell out is a bit of a trip,” he said.
“It's really encouraging, I think it’s going to be a fun weekend.
Since the band burst onto the scene in 2011, thanks to the smooth 'Lay It Down’, The Rubens have managed to pull off a difficult balancing act; staying true to themselves, without necessarily sticking to the status quo.
While major hits like 'My Gun’ and 'Hoops’ sounds distinctly their own, the band has shown a great ability to shift the tempo up and down with the likes of the 'Night Is On My Side’ and recent single 'Million Man'.
Margin credits the varied musical tastes of each member of the band for their unique sound.
“I think we've changed for sure, each album has been a different experience and you don’t want to feel like you're repeating yourself,” he said.
“Across our albums, there have been a lot of variations in style, but I think Lo La Ru was more cohesive than the previous two.
“The sounds were quite consistent, although I'm not sure what genre it would be in necessarily.
“It was definitely more cohesive, whereas on our previous records there was quite a lot of different genres influencing what we did.
“We all have fairly different musical tastes individually.”
The Rubens have consistently charted well since they burst onto the scene, with their three albums peaking at #3, #2 and #3 on the ARIA album charts respectively.
