The Cake Cottage Albury-Wodonga founder Lana McMillan began operating out of a van in March before opening the Dean Street shop on September 18.
“I wanted to open a shop for a long time but we started with the van in Wodonga first,” she said.
Born and raised in Albury, Ms McMillan said she enjoyed baking and had dabbled in cake decorating for about 15 years.
“I’ve always liked the creative side of it, like the icing flowers,” she said.
“There’s a lot of satisfaction in the end result.”
Ms McMillan said The Cake Cottage offered a homely environment for people to catch up.
Together with husband, Terry Ludbey, Ms McMillan has three children, Paige, 15, Rhys, 12, and Abbey, 10.
“During the last four or five years, people are looking for traditional, grandmother-style baking,” she said.
“I make everything from scratch such as cinnamon and nutella doughnuts and will be offering chocolate eclairs.”
The Cake Cottage serves Honeybird Coffee.
The shop opens Monday to Friday, 8am to 3.30pm, and most Saturdays from 8am to noon while the van does public events on the Border.
