Volunteers Shelley Robotham and Angela Maling will demonstrate the new wave of sustainable fashion, using existing pieces, making genuine one-offs and keeping unwanted items out of landfill.
“Many of us feel nostalgic about a particular item of clothing but if it no longer fits or is stained, turning it into a new item with a different purpose extends its lifespan,” she said.
“It can be as simple as turning a pair of pants into shorts or more involved, like turning a business shirt into children’s shorts.”
The session comes in the lead-up to Christmas to offer upcycled items as novel or personal gifts.
“You could transform someone's old jeans into a tool pouch or carry bag. You could create a kids’ tepee out of a faded doona, even turn bread bags into useful peg bags,” Mrs Maling said.
The Repair Cafe will be operate between 10am and 1pm at the Sustainable Activity Centre, Gateway Village.
The popular device help desk will also return on Saturday.
