A CROWD of "mourners” has attended a symbolic funeral for the environment at Albury.
The Funeral for our Future event was held at Australia Park on Saturday, led by a Border group opposed to the Adani coal mine.
Organiser Tracey Esler said burning coal was the top contributor to climate change.
“We need to stop this coal mine and put Australia on a path to renewable energy,” she said.
Attendees wore black and carried a coffin at the event.
“With Adani charging ahead with its plans and indicating that funding is close, the time to stop this mine is now,” Ms Esler said.
“From now until the federal election we will take our challenge to MPs’ doorsteps – Stop Adani or face more and more disgruntled, disruptive constituents.”
About 200 people attended.
