The draft “Wangaratta car parking plan”, released by the council this week, states there is a perception of a lack of car spaces near business.
But it found there were plenty of spaces 500 metres to 800 metres away, which “is commonly considered reasonable for staff parking”.
“As works and development continue within the CBD, this provides scope for adjustment to parking regulations,” the plan stated.
Putting time restrictions on parking in Ovens, Baker and Templeton streets and Sydney Beach was estimated to create an extra 50 free spaces for other cars during the day.
This could happen by June next year.
Submissions can be made to Wangaratta Council before February 1.
