Uniting’s Food for Families appeal aims to raise 70 tonnes, or 20,000 shopping bags, of non-perishable food and household essentials for more than 40,000 Victorians experiencing hardship at Christmas and beyond.
Uniting in Goulburn North East emergency relief co-ordinator Catherine Byrne said not only people living on welfare were asking for assistance.
MORE NEWS:
“Underemployment, casualisation of the workforce and rising costs of living mean that some people who have jobs still cannot afford to make ends meet,” she said.
“The knock-on effect is, quite simply, people cannot afford to buy food, pay their rent or pay their bills on time.”
Uniting expects the number of families needing assistance across the Goulburn North East to grow.
