Wayne Robinson, 46, appeared briefly in Wangaratta Magistrates Court on Thursday, where he sat in the back row and did not speak.
Court documents state he allegedly groomed two people under 16 for sexual activity and possessed child pornography at his Boorhaman home.
Robinson has been mentoring students for more than 20 years since founding the Northern Rivers Academy of Music in 1998.
The allegations of rape stretch back over about a decade.
Robinson will remain on bail until the case returns to court on February 14.
