Steven Wade Campbell, 51, has been jailed for the June 4 incident involving his partner and other offending against her.
Magistrate Rodney Brender recently told the Albury Local Court “all of those matters are very serious examples of domestic violence”.
“Domestic violence is completely unacceptable in our society,” he said.
Campbell had been injecting excessive amounts of ice at the time of the offending, the court heard.
“You’ve lost everything,” Mr Brender said.
Campbell, who has criminal records in Victoria, NSW, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, had been in a relationship with the victim for eight years.
They were at their Boomerang Drive home on June 4 and had a loud argument.
Police attended but the pair had left.
The bloodied victim was found at the Lavington ALDI in an emotional, manic state and heavily affected by drugs or alcohol.
The pair had a heated argument which turned physical, with Campbell punching her in the head.
He picked up the tow rope with a metal hook and swung it into the victim's chest and right thigh.
Campbell drove away from the home and punched the woman in her head and ear.
He stopped on a secluded road and burnt her thigh with a cigarette, causing four welts.
The pair stopped in the ALDI car park and the 51-year-old continued to attack her.
He punched her in the face, head and chest, causing her mouth to bleed.
A witness heard the woman scream for help as she tried to escape from the car.
She ran into the supermarket freezer and a staff member comforted her as police were called.
Campbell was arrested in the early hours of the following morning.
Despite the offending and an apprehended violence order being imposed, the pair again came to police attention while driving to Queensland on September 16 to get married.
Campbell also stole various items from the same ALDI and had sold them to a pawn shop.
Mr Brender imposed a 12 month jail term with an eight-month minimum, and will be eligible for parole next May.
The magistrate said he hoped the sentence would be enough to deter Campbell from future offending
