Officers from as far as Sydney and Deniliquin joined Albury and Wodonga police in the search for Trevor Barrett following the incident on November 18.
Police surrounded a home on Gardinia Street in Springdale Heights about 2pm on Tuesday following a tip-off.
The 19-year-old was found inside the home and was arrested without incident.
He has been charged with a large number of offences, including aggravated carjacking and driving a vehicle at police to avoid arrest.
Police have not ruled out laying charges against those who may have assisted Barrett during his three-and-a-half weeks on the run.
The firearm allegedly used in the carjacking on Orton Place in North Albury is yet to be recovered.
Detective Inspector Winston Woodward said it was a positive outcome, especially given that no-one was injured during the arrest.
A large number of police resources were allocated to finding Barrett, who will now spend Christmas in custody.
He did not apply for bail during an appearance before Albury Local Court on Wednesday and will return to court on February 19.
“Police received information that the male may have been inside that residence,” Detective Inspector Woodward said of the events leading to the arrest.
“Police surrounded the that residence and were able to effectively arrest the male without incident.
“The male did surrender without anybody being injured and no other offences being detected.
“To arrest this man safely is very pleasing.”
Police will allege a baseball bat was involved in another incident involving a female victim.
Barrett has been charged with dangerous driving, unauthorised gun possession, using an offensive weapon in company, robbery in company and other driving matters.
Police had followed numerous leads and spoke to Barrett’s associates in a bid to track him down.
Detective Inspector Woodward thanked those involved in his arrest.
“Members of the public are very helpful when they come forward and provide us with information,” he said.
“We are now looking at those who have hindered our investigation in relation to this male.”
