VicRoads is appealing to any North East motorists who do not have to travel to delay journeys, as flood waters remain around the region.

The Hume Freeway in both directions remains closed in parts between Barnawartha and Benalla, due to flooding.
“If your travel isn’t absolutely necessary, delay your journey where possible,” a VicRoads spokesperson said.
A detour is set up through Shepparton and Yarrawonga, with Melbourne-bound traffic diverting at the Murray Valley Highway and Sydney-bound traffic at the Goulburn Valley Highway from Seymour or the Midland Highway from Benalla.
There is still major flooding on many roads with road closures including the Great Alpine Road, Federation Way and Beechworth-Wangaratta Road.

Emergency services are assisting drivers and members caught in and near floodwater, and VicRoads is helping with diversions for traffic.
Motorists need to drive to the conditions, remembering that braking distance doubles in the wet. Drivers should never attempt to drive through floodwater.
The road will be reopened as soon as it safe to do so. Once the flooding subsides, the road will be inspected for damage.
