But Elissa Pawley will get to serve her sentence at her Mulwala home by way of an intensive corrections order.
A sentencing assessment report had previously found Pawley suitable for home detention.
The heavily pregnant 23-year-old was supported by family members when she fronted Albury Local Court this week for sentence.
She had previously pleaded guilty to a second offence of drive motor vehicle while disqualified.
Pawley initially had been warned there was a strong chance she would go to jail for these offences, committed when she was aged 20.
Police had gone to a Wodonga Place, Albury, motel in mid-2015 over an outstanding warrant for Pawley’s co-accused.
They arrived at the motel in the early morning to find Pawley and the man about to get into a taxi.
They were quickly arrested and during a search of their room police found the firearm on a bench, next to her clothes.
The firearm, with both a sawn-off barrel and a sawn-off stock, resembled a pistol, the court heard.
The driving while disqualified charge was laid after police pulled over her car in Waugh Road, North Albury, on June 29 about 11.50pm.
They had used their lights and sirens to direct her to stop.
The officers had watched as she travelled along several streets around North Albury, including “as the car sped north along Kestrel Street”.
When asked for her licence, she replied: “I don’t have one.”
A police check revealed she did have a licence, but it was disqualified for three years from July 12, 2017.
The court previously heard how Pawley once struggled with drug addiction.
