The Williamstown player and Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Matthew Cottrell have been invited to train with the AFL club until the end of February following a season-ending injury to Sam Docherty.
Gibbons trained last Friday and will be integrated into the full program after the Christmas break.
“We rated both players highly before the draft so it’s great we have another opportunity to get a look at them,” Carlton list boss Michael Agresta said.
“They have the potential to further boost our midfield depth.”
Gibbons has continually been left frustrated after being overlooked in national and rookie drafts after starring at VFL level.
Carlton has two vacant spots on its list and have the option to add one or both players before the pre-season supplemental selection period closes on March 15.
