North East product Maggie McGowan founded fashion social enterprise Magpie Goose in Katherine, saying she wanted to create a connect with authentic Aboriginal art that she did not have growing up.
“Magpie Goose creates a platform for people to engage with, learn about and connect with Aboriginal culture, people and stories; while generating income for artists, models, and story tellers in remote communities,” she said.
“Each design tells a story of country, tradition, history, culture, bush food.”
The designs from artists across Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia are hand screen-printed on natural fibres then made into statement clothing pieces.
Ms McGowan said this type of authentic art was not often available outside of Aboriginal communities.
Magpie Goose will host a pop-up shop at Eldorado Road cellar door in Beechworth Wednesday from 3pm to 8pm.
