Phil Shanahan is hoping for around 400 entries overall for next month’s event, with many from the local area.
“Yeah, definitely, we work hard to bring national points tournaments to our region and we’ve got two in a row with the Victorian Grasscourt Championships (the following week),” he said.
“There’s the event at Easter as well, our players don’t have to do the travelling they’ve done in the past.”
Players earn ranking points, which allows them to contest other profile tournaments.
Central Coast’s Troy Lockwood won the 2018 title with a straight sets win over Royal South Yarra Tennis Club coach Andrew McLean, while second seed Anne-Marie Medcalf ended Alarna Parnaby’s hopes.
The tournament runs for six days until January 8.
