Nicholas, who has coached the Demons in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018, had his tenure extended earlier this week.
“I told the club I was happy to step aside if it could find a 25 or 26-year old with a few mates but it didn’t work out that way,” Nicholas, 32, said.
“I’m happy to go around again.
“I’ve been doing it for a while and the challenge is always there.
“We have a bit of a challenge in front of us with finding players but we will find them.”
The seven-time Corryong best and fairest winner guided the Demons to the 2017 flag and has played in premierships in 2002 and 2005.
He has won three league best and fairest awards during his 250-match career.
Club president Owen Johnstone said Nicholas had put his heart and soul into the club during his time at the club.
“We’re very happy with the appointment,” Johnstone said.
“People have respect for Evan.
“He bleeds red and blue.
