Regent Cinemas Albury-Wodonga released Boxing Day blockbusters – such as Ralph Breaks the Internet and, appropriately, Aquaman – just in time for cinephiles to take refuge from the soaring temperatures.

Regent Cinemas Albury-Wodonga sales manager Kelly Davis said on Wednesday Aquaman attracted plenty of interest on one of the cinema’s busiest days of the year.

“Aquaman in Gold Class today has sold out,” she said.

“It is expected to be one of the hits of the summer.”

Ms Davis said there were about 50 movie screenings on Wednesday including four new releases.

“As it gets hotter and hotter our admissions get busier and busier,” Ms Davis said.

“Boxing Day is one of our busiest days; everyone’s excited to be out and using the cinema vouchers they got for Christmas.”

Ms Davis said Mary Poppins Returns would be released on New Year’s Day.

“It will be one of the biggest films of the summer.”
