An information pack released by the council states the need to make “strategic facility decisions” on the future of pools at Chiltern, Beechworth, Rutherglen, Tangambalanga and Yackandandah.
“All five pools were built in the 1960s and 1970s and, over the years, have undergone a variety of upgrades and renovations,” the council stated.
“However, the pool shells and some of the key plant and equipment are ageing and an assessment is required for council to make informed decisions into the future.”
The consultants will be required to provide a comprehensive report including recommendations for short and long-term renewal and infrastructure needs for each of the five pools.
Indigo Council has planned to appoint a consultant by January 20, have site inspections occur in February and wants a draft plan provided by March 12.
Half the $10,000 fee will be paid when consultants are employed and the other half when the report is finished.
Indigo’s pools were the subject of a $18,125 federal government grant early in 2018, which went towards a $38,000 project to install safety signage at all five locations and a solar pool blanket at the Yackandandah pool.
The council has also budgeted $60,000 during 2018-19 for minor renewal work including a new pump, air conditioning and commercial pool vacuum at the Chiltern pool.
The five pools are being opened for free on Thursday and Friday to give relief to residents during the heatwave.
