“I think that’s what we identified after last year’s grand final, probably missing a big option down forward with a couple of players being a bit quieter,” first-year coach Brett Doswell said.
“He’ll hopefully give us a bit of leadership down there and then obviously play in the middle of the ground.”
Johnston spent the past two years at the Hoppers after finishing runner-up in the Hume League’s Azzi Medal in 2016.
He showed patches of his power, including a stunning three-goal second quarter blitz against Wangaratta in May.
Speculation had been growing that former O and M stars Jarrod Twitt and Brad Thompson had joined one-time Wodonga team-mate Doswell as players.
“They’ve just committed to helping out on the sidelines, if I can pull their legs and get them to play a few games, I’ll be pretty happy.”
