Fresh off a world tour and Triple J feature, pop-rock trio Stand Atlantic will perform in the city.
Their free gig at St Patrick’s Hall on January 19 will follow a free workshop earlier that day, hosted by the group’s lead singer Bonnie Fraser.
Wangaratta Council’s youth development officer Tom Arnold said the event kicked off the year for the council’s youth event crew, Creative Youth.
“Creative Youth is all about empowering young people in Wangaratta to put on events and learn industry related skills,” he said.
“The crew will not only make sure the event runs smoothly, but they are responsible for everything in the lead-up to the night, from organising the bands to co-ordinating first aid and security.”
The doors will open at 6.30pm, with two support acts before Stand Atlantic.
While the concert is free, tickets must be booked through Eventbrite at standatlantic.eventbrite.com.au, where attendees can also register for the workshop.
This is an all-ages, drug/smoke/alcohol-free event, which will be fully supervised with no pass-outs allowed.
In January Wangaratta Art Gallery will present the return of the popular NGV Kids on Tour – Make Believe and a gallery-curated art workshop facilitated by North East artists Kirrily Anderson and Taro Iiyama, Paper Alive.
NGV Kids on Tour – Make Believe on January 16 brings free art-inspired activities and workshops to children across the state.
Highlights include uncovering the secrets to the optical illusions in M.C. Escher’s intricate works and the opportunity for children to create their own artworks influenced by William Wegman, who is renowned for his iconic photographs of Weimaraners reflecting art history and fashion.
The second holiday workshop, Paper Alive, runs January 10 and 11 and is aimed at upper primary and secondary school aged children.
The workshop will take place under the trees in King George Gardens and is part of the Rural City of Wangaratta’s Summer in the Parks Program for 2019.
