Riverina suffered its third final-over defeat in as many days as the Kookaburra Cup drew to a close on Thursday.
Greater Illawarra passed Riverina’s total of 151 two wickets down with just three balls to spare.
Riverina were bowled out in the 39th over for 151, but it could have been much worse after slipping to 5-45 early in the innings.
An 83-run stand between Ben Signor (50) and Jake Scott (36) got Riverina to a competitive score.
However, the spoils belonged to Greater Illawarra’s Lachlan Malcolm who finished with incredible figures of 8-17 from 7.4 overs.
In reply, a 105-run partnership from Alec Dobson and Oliver Needham saw Greater Illawarra home.
Jordan Rhodes impressed for Riverina with 0-12.
“I spoke to the boys after the game and they were disappointed because I think we’re better than a two-win, three-loss team,” Riverina coach Mick Galvin said.
“The boys will learn so much from that.”
Central Coast were the overall winners.
