The route had been blocked since floods damaged the Golden Ball bridge in December.
Regional Roads Victoria’s Rebecca Steer said the single lane Bailey Bridge had a maximum load limit of 15 tonne and delays of five to ten minutes were expected as vehicles travel one direction at a time as signalled.
A 10kmh speed limit is in place over the bridge and there is a 40kmh limit on both approaches.

“It’s been a complex operation to install the Bailey Bridge, especially when you consider the scope of the damage to Golden Ball Bridge, erosion and undermining of the abutment as a result of the flash flooding, and additional works required to reinforce the temporary structure,” Ms Steer said.
“We’re asking the community to be patient while they’re waiting to cross and adhere to the speed reductions for their safety and that of others.”
Engineering teams are progressing the designs for major repairs to Golden Ball Bridge, which are expected to begin in coming months.
Heavy vehicle detours remain for vehicles over (15T) and wide loads, with Beechworth accessible via Beechworth-Chiltern Road (B-Double route) or Buckland Gap Road.
