More than 1000 entries have been taken for the 153rd annual Murray Rowing Association Regatta at Rutherglen’s Lake Moodemere this weekend.
Incredibly, 574 athletes have entered in a total of 1119 events on the schedule, filling 2919 seats for the popular two-day event.
The 2018 regatta fetched 981 entries from 574 athletes across 2575 seats – which was the record until it was eclipsed by this year’s field.
With history dating back as far as the 1860s, the Rutherglen event has gone from strength to strength in recent years, jumping from just 33 entries in 2002 to becoming the most iconic bush regatta on on the Australian rowing calendar.
A strong local representation from Albury-Wodonga, Rutherglen, Wahgunyah and Corowa will compete, along with several Victorian clubs including Ballarat, Bendigo and Shepparton.
The event is co-hosted by Rutherglen Lake, Wahgunyah and Corowa rowing clubs.
