Merlewood’s Anne Marie and Daniel Barrow are thankful that the season in Gippsland has been kind to them this year.
And the result is a terrific line up of Black Angus stud bulls, the Mirboo North pair say.
“Our season this year has been better than many other areas and for that we are very grateful,” said Anne Marie.
“We realise that many farmers forfeited purchasing a bull in 2018 as fodder purchases took priority.
“Whilst we can sometimes make do for one year, in order to continue to top the markets with our cattle it is important that we continue to join our females with leading industry Black Angus sires that perform.
“As such, we are pleased to be bringing a terrific line-up of Black Angus stud bulls to the Gippsland for commercial farmers to include in their breeding program.”
Bred in the hilly terrain of the Gippsland area, the Barrow’s say Merlewood’s cattle have the genetics and the phenotype to thrive and perform in the paddocks of Gippsland farms.
“Born and bred in the region, these bulls are well handled and are used to running in smaller paddocks in mobs of 40 with lots of people contact. Respect your bull and your bull in return will respect you,” said Daniel.
“Over the years we have listened to our clients’ feedback as well as following closely consumer trends – after all the people who eat our beef provide the ultimate feedback about carcase cuts. Year by year we monitor frame score whilst balancing length, carcase traits, fats and growth to produce black angus bulls that are “three-tickers” all round.”
He said with renowned Australian, New Zealand and a couple of proven American sires in the mix, there is sure to be a bull here to suit the right breeding program.
The Barrow’s look forward to welcoming visitors on Tuesday January 29 to their farm where all 40 of their annual sale bulls will be on show.
“Our third annual bull sale will be held at noon on March 22 so come along and shortlist your preferred performers,” said Daniel.
