The international race is regarded as Australia's biggest on the UCI calendar, with Heather impressing to finish eighth in the general classification.
Her ride was all the more incredible after the work she did to support her teammate Jamie Gunning, who finished sixth and collected the young riders white jersey classification.
She made her move during the second stage.
Heather's attention now turns to the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race on January 27.
