With Daryl Tuffey, Matt Tom and Brett Davies unavailable, Matt Heagney jumped at the chance to bat at number four.
Heagney topscored with 66 as the Panthers chased down 7-207 with 26 balls to spare.
“We were really happy with how we chased,” O’Connor said.
“We lost a few unnecessary wickets towards the end in the last 15 or 20 runs but up until then Sam Harris, Nathan Brown and Matt Heagney batted brilliantly.
“They set up a solid win.
“We only won by two wickets but I was really happy with the chase.”
Heagney, who joined Lavington from Corowa, has played first and second grade this season and is providing stability in the Panthers’ aggressive batting list.
He is also one of the best fielders at the club.
“We have some good depth in our squad,” O'Connor said.
“Matt got a chance in the Twenty20 through sheer hard work and determination and he’s having a wonderful season.”
St Patrick’s put a competitive total on the board thanks to a superb 95 from Kori Stevenson.
He hit 11 boundaries and one six during his 124-ball innings and received support from Neil Smith (26) and Luke Restall (20).
Panther paceman Dave Tassell picked 3-48 to take his season wicket tally to 25 – five more than North Albury’s George McCormick.
Belvoir scored a crucial four-wicket win over Albury at Kelly Park.
With sixth spot on the line, the Eagles held their opponents to 9-132 and chased down the target on the back of a half-century from Mick Russell.
Russell (53) and David Farrell (26) put on 79 for the opening wicket before Albury fought its way back into the contest through speedster Jake Hindmarsh (4-25).
Wodonga proved a class above Wodonga Raiders, winning by seven wickets at Les Cheesley Oval.
Reeling at an embarrassing 9-65, the Raiders stretched their total to 148 thanks to an 83-run last-wicket partnership by Jonathan Carson (45 not out) and Steve Keene (45).
But it was never going to be enough with Tom Johnson (73), Jack Craig (41) and BJ Garvey (19) seeing the Bulldogs to victory in just 20 overs.
