Tungatalum, who kicked five goals for Tiwi Bombers against Southern Districts at the weekend, is firmly on coach Daryn Cresswell's radar.
He showed flashes of brilliance under Cresswell at Birallee Park in 2015 and would inject some much-needed class into Wangaratta Rovers’ attack.
Tungatalum has kicked 30 goals in 11 matches this season.
Given Tungatalum’s previous unreliability in returning from the Northern Territory, the Hawks are unlikely to trumpet his signing.
Wangaratta Rovers shape as the Ovens and Murray's big improver this year after signing a handful of players including Nick Murray and Tom McCaffrey from Wodonga Raiders.
VFL players Max Spencer and Charlie Thompson have also nominated the Hawks as their second club.
