The Food Truck Carnival Company will host the first Albury Food Truck Carnival at Hovell Tree Park from April 4 to 7.

There will be up to 17 food trucks offering a variety of international cuisine throughout the four-day carnival.

Food Truck Carnival Company business manager Peter Caldwell said the company was happy to bring the carnival to Albury for the first time.

Mr Caldwell said the Albury event had been in the pipeline for about 12 months.

“We were looking for another venue along the Murray River to hold the carnival,” he said.

“Our dealings with Albury City were very positive.

“We hope we’ll come back to Albury every year.”

Mr Caldwell said about 16 or 17 food trucks would travel with the company to Albury in April.

He said that gave people a good variety of food styles to come back to try over a couple of nights.

“You can’t get around them all in one night,” he said.

Mr Caldwell said he encouraged Border vendors to get involved in the carnival.

“We’ll be using some local vendors and encouraging our food truck vendors with the carnival to purchase supplies from local vendors,” Mr Caldwell said.

“We’ll be supporting local hotels and motels during the carnival.

“There will be opportunities for locals to work at the carnival.”

The free, gated carnival will have a fully-licensed bar.

In January 2017 organisers said up to 45,000 people attended the inaugural Yarrawonga Food Truck Carnival, which was held at the Yarrawonga foreshore over five days.

Patrons travelled from Melbourne, Albury-Wodonga, Shepparton, Benalla, Bendigo and Echuca.

Some frustrated Yarrawonga traders said many Belmore Street businesses had suffered throughout the carnival.

Former carnival director Mark Lipshut said at the time the company had been approached by 20 other councils or events wanting to bring the carnival to their region.

“Albury-Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla, Echuca and Shepparton are all places we’ve had contact with,” he said.

The Hovell Tree Park event will offer live music every night and fireworks.

Entry to the carnival is free but a gold coin donation will go to a local charity yet to be decided.

The family-friendly event on April 4 and 5 runs from 5pm to 10pm, April 6 from noon to 10pm and April 7 noon to 9pm.
