They’re not looking for the metaphysical being many believe to have been behind the creation of the known universe – that would obviously be far beyond the remit of a local theatre company.
They are though, looking for someone to play God, in their upcoming production of Jesus Christ Superstar.
We’re wanting to attract people who haven’t done any theatre before, who might have made a New Year’s resolution to try something new.
- Christine Duff
Auditions for all roles in the show will be held from February 15 to 17, and director Christine Duff is hoping to see plenty of new faces try their hand on stage.
“We’re wanting to attract people who haven’t done any theatre before, who might have made a New Year’s resolution to try something new, to come down,” she said.
“We’re also looking for some experienced players, and some children to audition as well.”
The world-renowned show chronicles the last seven days of Jesus’ life, through the eyes of Judas.
Duff said newcomers to the theatre scene shouldn’t be daunted by trying out for the first time.
“There will be mentors on hand for people who haven’t done this kind of thing before,” she said.
“We want as many people involved as we can – not everybody has to be terrific singers, dancers or actors.
“If people want to learn, we can certainly help with that.
“We’re really looking to emphasise that we’re looking for young people as well.”
Revolution Theatre is one of the fundraising arms of the Albury-Wodonga Community Chest, and donate 50 per cent of the profits from their shows to the charity.
The remaining funds are put towards staging the next show.
The company has another production soon to be shown – puppet comedy Avenue Q, which will be held from March 21 to 24.
The three-time Tony Award winning show carries an MA rating, so be warned you’re in for quite a ride.
