The Way of the Reformer: Gough Whitlam in His Century opens in the Lane Gallery of the Albury Library Museum tomorrow.
This exhibition reveals the story of the man behind the legacy; the Canberra schoolboy obsessed with Greek myths and the RAAF navigator braving skies at the height of the Pacific War.
A touring exhibition of the Whitlam Institute within Western Sydney University, the Albury exhibition runs until March 24.
Whitlam Institute director Leanne Smith will present Legacy of a Leader: Whitlam’s Reforms and Modern Australia at the Library Museum on March 6 from 5.30pm.
Whitlam’s government passed a record number of bills into law, enacting reform in nearly every field during a tumultuous period that ended dramatically with Australia’s only dismissal of a prime minister by the Governor-General.
Whitlam’s government was responsible for shaping much of the institutional, legislative and cultural foundation of modern Australia.
There will be an exhibition talk (part of the Seniors Festival) at the library on February 23.
