Lillis has added some class, luring 2016 best and fairest winner Daniel Atwell back to the club after two seasons with Ringwood in the Eastern Football league.
In a further bonus, Matt Spargo is also set to be a regular in the midfield after playing only three matches last season due to work commitments.
“Daniel won the best and fairest and represented the league last time he was here a couple of years ago,” Lillis said.
“He’s a tough, uncompromising midfielder.
“Not only will he add a bit of grunt to the midfield but his leadership will also vital.
“We signed Matt last year but with his work based in Melbourne he was only able to play a handful of games.
“So he will be like a recruit this year and is a quality midfielder who has the ability to hit the scoreboard.
“He is a real fitness fanatic and can run all day.”
Atwell joins prolific goalkicker Trent Castles as the Roos’ two biggest signings over the summer.
Former ruckman Ollie McEwen also signed with the Roos before Christmas but will instead remain at Albury for a third season.
Lillis said it was important to recruit some experienced players to complement the club’s young list.
“Connor Marshall won the third grade league best and fairest last year and we expect him to develop into a regular senior player,” he said.
“He’s an athletic tall and can play almost anywhere on the ground.
“Ethan Patrala played thirds last year but was exposed to senior football and showed some promising signs rotating through the midfield with his natural footy smarts.
“I expect he will also be a regular in the seniors.
“We have got a young list but if the kids can improve, a finals spot is very achievable.”
