Cr Mack revealed Murray United had approached Albury Thunder about sharing a rectangular stadium in recent times and hoped talks between the clubs could be done in conjunction with Albury and Wodonga councils as part of the Two Cities, One Community initiative.
“I know definitely Wodonga (Council) is meeting with Murray United tomorrow to discuss a rectangular stadium strategy,” Cr Mack said.
“My understanding is Murray United has done a fair bit of work in relation to what they prefer.
“But it rivals something like AAMI Stadium in Melbourne at the moment.
“I think we can accommodate that on a regional basis if both resources are devoted to it.”
The possibility of Thunder and United both playing at a redeveloped Greenfield Park has been discussed informally.
Cr Henk van de Ven said his only concern would be any delays in the Greenfield Park works in pursuing a rectangular stadium for the two clubs at a different venue.
“There are a few years between each of these processes, but as long as it doesn’t provide any delays for what we see as the future for this sportsground I am comfortable,” he said.
“These feasibility studies can be done in the very early stages of the process.
“But if it’s going to delay things down the track because it doesn’t attract any extra funding opportunities, I would like to see us go ahead regardless.”
