The Block, which aired on Monday night, was narrowly beaten by Prime’s No Ordinary Family in Albury.
But it thrashed Channel 10’s top show, Masterchef, by almost 8 per cent.
Jenna Whitehead, from Wodonga, and Josh Densten, from Corowa, took out the elimination challenge against Perth couple Shannon and Aaron, whom they rated as their biggest threat.
“Shannon and Aaron were the couple we wanted to go up against least, they had the experience, they knew what they were doing, it was pretty scary stuff going against them,” Densten, 24, said.
“We were definitely very lucky to get through, they were stiff competition.
“But I guess having lived in Melbourne, we had an advantage because we know what people here might want.”
Having bought and renovated a rundown house in East Albury three years ago, the couple were well prepared for The Block.
Mr Densten said buying in Albury was a good stepping stone to their dream, living in Albert Park in Melbourne.
Now living in and renovating their second home in Melbourne, they still own their Albury home, with no definite plans of selling it in the future.
“We love coming home to Albury,” Ms Whitehead, 23, said.
“At the end of day, our friends and family are there.”
With a competitive advantage, Mr Densten has worked as a plumber for eight years and has 3? years experience in construction.
“I know how much everything should cost, how to make the job right, it’s a definite advantage for us,” he said.
“We’ve got a heap of renovating experience, we’ve done one in Albury, and on the second one now, The Block was our third.
“So we definitely know how to renovate from start to finish.”
A hairdresser, Ms Whitehead said creativity is needed in both hair design and interior design.
A fiery argument between the pair on the Monday night episode proved the couple is sure to make interesting viewing.
“I have a bit of a temper, but that’s partly because Jen knows how to push my buttons, but everyone’s got a bit of a temper when on The Block,” Mr Densten said.
Elimination week on The Block continues on WIN at 7.30pm tonight.
