Two mates catching up over Christmas decided City2City sounded a good idea.
James Harris, of Killara, and Albury’s Ben Margery are now looking for another run to aim for after successfully completing the cross border challenge’s 10 kilometre event yesterday.
“It made us go on a little bit of a six-week crash training thing together,” Mr Harris said.
“He did his calf and I hurt my back in the lead-up so it wasn’t all smooth sailing.”
Mr Harris hadn’t done much running since the arrival of his young daughters, Evie, 5, Belle, 3, and Peggy, 22 months, who were there to cheer him over the City2City finish line.
One of more than 4300 participants, Mr Harris enjoyed his first City2City.
“It was good to see, there were all walks of life there,” he said.
“There were absolute professional runners … but then families walking with prams, it was a really good atmosphere.”
Given his limited training, the runner was pleased to achieve his goal of finishing the 10km course in less than an hour, clocking up about 57 minutes.
But perhaps his youngsters didn’t quite see it that way.
“The winner ran it in like 30 minutes or something and they were waiting quite a while for me and they were, ‘You took so long, Dad’,” Mr Harris said with a laugh.
