If you are looking for a reason to ramp up your fitness you might be interested in the Apia Steppin’ Out Walking Group this year and take the steps towards a happier, healthier lifestyle.
Walking is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. It can be done just about anywhere and is free. Walking also has a very low risk of injury as it is low impact (not jarring on the joints) and doesn’t require any special equipment or training.
Join a group
In partnership with the Heart Foundation, Apia run a free local walking group in Albury to provide their customers and local over 50s residents with a fun, free way to become more physically active.
If walking becomes your regular activity, you'll be building a healthier heart and body. It also helps you feel stronger, more energetic, happier and improves your overall quality and enjoyment of life.
Local residents are invited to join the group’s one year anniversary celebration on Wednesday March 13 at 8.30am to have a try and find out more about joining the group.
The walking group meet at the Apia/Suncorp Albury branch at 463 – 467 Kiewa Street.
“There is no need to register prior, just come along for a walk and stay for a chat and complimentary morning tea,” said Heart Foundation Walk organiser and Apia staff member Lyndell Ozolins.
She is encouraging over 50’s to take up walking, no matter what their age or fitness level.
“There are many health benefits of regular exercise and it is also a great way to socialise and meet new people. Heart Foundation Walking is fun, free and easy — so why not give it a try. We walk every Wednesday at 8.30am.”
Participants of the program receive Heart Foundation Walking newsletters and recognition for their walking (including certificates and vouchers) after they have reached major walking milestones.
