Only three months after lodging a clearance to join the Broome Bulls, Cox stunned Swampie players by making a surprise appearance at training on Wednesday night.
"No one really knew he was coming back until he turned up at training," coach Joel Price said.
"He sure surprised a few.
"There was a fair bit of excitement on the track."
While Price was optimistic Cox would find his way back to Henty, he admitted it was a huge relief to regain one of the league's premier midfielders.
Cox took the competition by storm in his debut season last year, finishing runner-up in the Azzi medal behind Howlong's Steve Jolliffe.
"He had a bit of family stuff going on late last year and I just stayed in touch with him through that," Price said.
"Once he got that stuff sorted he was never not going to come back.
"He loved it here last year.
"He's pretty determined to have a big season.
"He's had four to six weeks of training with his brother Cedric who plays for the Brisbane Lions.
"He's super fit and ready to roll."

Cox's brother, Dale, won't be returning to Henty with the backman set to play in the SANFL.
Henty has also signed Tiwi Bombers and Waratah wingman Kim Kantilla.
Kantilla, 20, played 13 matches in the Northern Territory's Premier League last season with his pace set to provide Henty with another attacking weapon.
Bustling Henty forward Shannon Terlich will miss the opening month of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery late last year.
A fit Terlich would give the Swampies the luxury of playing prized North Albury recruit Dan Leslie at either end of the ground.
