Competitors from Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and NSW will go head-to-head in the 45-lap race.

The Victorian Speedcar Drivers Association, who is co-hosting the event, is the oldest speedcar (midgets) club in the world after being established in 1934.

In previous years Wangaratta has hosted many blue ribbon events on the Australian Speedcar calendar including the Victorian Speedcar Championship (2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012) and the Beasley Memorial (2002, 2003, 2004 and 2013).

The 45-lap feature will commemorate 45 years of the track running at its present location with local businesses sponsoring individual laps.

The “pocket rocket” cars boast four cylinder, 2.7 litre, 360+ horsepower engines into 400kg chassis, giving them a power to weight ratio close to an F1 car.

The cars and engines are so closely matched it makes their racing exciting for the spectators due to the constant passing and wheel to wheel action that goes on throughout the races.

Local racing classes will also be running as support events to make it a full racing night under lights.

There will be a display of some of the competing cars on the Saturday morning at the Apco Service station at Roy Street, opposite McDonalds, with giveaway and poster signings available.
