THE cities of Wodonga and Wangaratta are to become bases for legislative councillors for the first time since Victorian Upper House areas were redrawn in 2006.

Liberal Democrat Tim Quilty will have an office in Wodonga and Derryn Hinch Justice Party member Tania Maxwell has earmarked Wangaratta as the place for her work hub.
They are awaiting parliamentary staff to enter leases and until they're finalised will have access to offices occupied by their predecessors Shooters, Fishers and Farmers' Daniel Young and National Luke O'Sullivan.
That means Mr Quilty has an office at Seymour and Ms Maxwell's is in Bendigo.
The pair hope to have hometown hubs by June.
"Ideally I would like to be between the water tower and Junction Place (in High Street, Wodonga)," Mr Quilty said.
"I need people to be able to see it."
Ms Maxwell had no real preference as long as she was not in an industrial estate.
Since the province of North Eastern Victoria was abolished in 2006 and replaced by Northern Victoria there have been no MLC offfices in the Hume Freeway corridor north of Seymour.
National Bill Baxter had an office in Stanley Street, Wodonga until 2006, with his party colleague David Evans having premises in Faithfull Street, Wangaratta, before retiring from the Upper House in 1996.
