Community Accessability's community transport program has run for two decades, with volunteer drivers ferrying people with disabilities or other needs to day programs, appointments and shopping.

"People who are transport-disadvantaged, I guess, just getting them to where they need to be," operations manager Aidan Kilroy said.

"We've got a great core of volunteers, but for whatever reason over the past few months, weeks, we've got people away on holidays.

"We've got some of our regular guys who are off for various different reasons.

"It's really put pressure on the other volunteers to step up to the mark and they have done that but we don't want to really wear them out."

Mr Kilroy said anyone with a driver's licence able to satisfy the relevant checks could become a volunteer.

Many were retired, but some younger drivers also volunteered around their paid work.

"As little as two hours a week is helpful," he said.

"We've got some volunteers who work five days a week and are pretty much part of the furniture here."
