That's the message from business/management coach Sue Curtis, who will discuss wellbeing in the workplace this week.
The Wodonga Small Business Fair, a federal government initiative, will be held on Thursday from 7.30am to 1pm at The Cube.
Minister for Small and Family Business, Skills and Vocational Education, Senator Michaelia Cash will open the free event, which aims to raise awareness of the incentives, funding and programs available to support small business.
MORE BUSINESS NEWS:
Ms Curtis will run a stall to meet with small business owners and will also present a talk on resilience in the workplace.
"Self care is very important in building resilience and one that many business owners, from my experience, tend to neglect," she said.
"Before one can become an effective manager, often they need to take a step back and instigate strategies to enhance personal energy and focus.
"This can mean small changes such as incorporating some exercise into their day for example, walking round the block every so often during the day.
"Turning off mobiles and emails once home to switch off and lower stress levels."
Victorian Senator Jane Hume said the fair offered an opportunity for the 15,000 or so small and family businesses in the electorate of Indi.
"Small business is the lifeblood of our communities, our industry and our economy," she said.
"Our local businesses are working 24/7 and don’t have time to come to us, so we are going to them.”
Ms Curtis said managing workloads and people could cause stress for business owners, who often found delegation difficult.
Working to one's body rhythms, grouping similar tasks together and networking could all help build energy, efficiency and resilience.
"Managers need to have professional and personal support systems in place to enable debriefing and build the right mindset for better business outcomes," Ms Curtis said.
