A very dark moment
As a Catholic raised mental health nurse that studied at the Australian Catholic University and sadly one who deals with the aftermath of sexual assault against the young and innocent in crisis on a regular basis, this is a dark moment and sad moment for me.

As a registered nurse of 30 years my commitment will always be to the patient; non negotiable. I however hope the media don't crucify all Catholic clergy as I have encountered some magnificent examples of the priesthood in this region including Fathers Jake Mudge, Dennis Crameri and Kevin Flanagan. One bad apple does not maketh the barrell.

It's all about that base
I believe all the major political parties with their obsession with renewable energy and emission reduction targets are sleep-walking and deceiving the Australian community into a baseload electricity drought (baseload electricity is the minimum required to keep everything functioning and avoid blackouts). This drought of baseload electricity will devastate the economy and our everyday lives. Electricity has become essential for every aspect of our lives, both in business and everyday function. Just think … is there anything that you do that doesn’t involve electricity?
With the obsession with renewable energy targets, no thought is being given to what type of generator will provide the additional 50 per cent of baseload electricity required, when the Sun is shining providing 35 per cent? And the wind is blowing providing 15 per cent? Even more when the Sun is not shining, it will be 85 per cent baseload required from other sources and when the wind falters as well it jumps to 95 per cent or more.
Without that 50 per cent or 95 per cent, there will be blackouts in many areas on a rotational basis. The lights will go out, heating, cooling, whitegoods stop, the internet and eftpos are gone, businesses are unable to operate or trade.
These interruptions will bring on a recession or worse, create huge problems for business, and bring poverty to every section of the community, particularly those on welfare (pensioners, Newstart) and self-funded retirees. Every candidate in the coming federal election must be asked, "under your policies, what will be providing baseload power for Australia at 7am (before sunrise) on the 2nd of July 2023?"

Making a meal of it
Further to my letter written in January, I would like to point out that it now seems that McDonald's are forcing customers at more of their restaurants around Australia to use their self-serve kiosks by shutting down the registers.
Australia-wide, this will cost thousands of young people an opportunity of employment and also robs its customers of freedom of choice. One of our local McDonald's is doing the same thing.
I really think what McDonald's is doing is an un-Australian. Customers who encounter this should just turn around and walk out. This is not the fault of the staff that work there, or the franchisees. All the staff I have spoken to are against it.
