Pancake Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday, occurs in February or March each year on the day that precedes Ash Wednesday, which marks the first day of Lent.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Students at Rutherglen's St Mary's Primary School lined up for pancakes with maple syrup or lemon and sugar during recess.
This year they raised about $70 for Caritas, an international aid organisation that supports the poor and the oppressed.
Year 6 student Aleisha Price, 11, said their fundraiser had been very well supported by her peers.
"Caritas is raising money for people less fortunate than ourselves who can't afford the things we can," she said.
Principal Matt Attwater said the students had waited patiently in line at recess.
