More than 15,000 people in Albury-Wodonga could have hearing loss that's not diagnosed according to figures highlighted during Hearing Awareness Week, which ends Saturday.

Border audiologist Kathy Currie, of Specsavers, said adults, particularly over the age of 40, should have their hearing tested every two years.

Measures to help prevent hearing loss include protecting your ears around prolonged loud noise, like a lawn mover, turning down headphone volumes and never using cotton buds to clean ears.
"If it’s smaller than your elbow, don’t put it in your ear unless directed by a professional," Ms Currie said.
People should also look after the outside of their ears by remembering to apply sunscreen.
